Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) w/ Tween & Thymidine

26-658, TSB w/ 2% Tween 80 & 0.1% Thymidine; pH 7.3 ± 0.2:  Also known as Trypticase or Soybean-Casein Digest (TSB), Tryptic Soy Broth is a general purpose medium for the cultivation of fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms, including common aerobic, facultative and anaerobic bacteria and fungi. Adding Tween, and/or lecithin, neutralizes disinfectants like quaternary ammonium compounds, allowing for accurate detection of surviving microbes. These neutralizers support diverse bacteria, yeasts, and molds from samples that might have been exposed to cleaning agents. The addition of Thymidine provides a source for DNA synthesis, allowing growth and/or allowing researchers to measure DNA synthesis rates with radioactive thymidine ([3H]-thymidine).
